We are fully EMUSED!
The latest adventure on the farm is the addition of Emus. I gathered Emus eggs from breeders around the country to try my hand at incubation. Sadly, out of 17 eggs I purchased, I was only able to hatch two chicks. I had my heart set on blonde emus, so I broke down and purchased a pair of males from a breeder 8 hours away in Oregon and then, a month later, added a pair of females from a breeder in Olympia. The males I named Ozzy (yes, after Osbourne) and Axle (after Axle Rose from Guns and Roses). The females are Marilynn and Madonna. We are having so much fun watching them grow, and boy, oh boy, do they grow quickly. At three months old, the boys are already over four feet tall. They have become so friendly and live for their afternoon treats of kale and their very favorite dog treats. There are no funnier animals on the farm than the emu. They run and run and run and are so silly. They are now in their permanent enclosure with the geese and spend much of their day torturing by chasing them around.
