Rare Breed Poultry:

Belgian D'Uccle Chickens

Meet the Flock

Our quaint farm isn't your average commercial hatchery. Instead, we pride ourselves on breeding Belgian D'Uccle chickens and other rare poultry birds with a focus on quality and beauty. You see, I absolutely adore what I do, and each of my birds has a name and is treated like a pampered pet. Our small hatches ensure the breed's quality and improve hatch rate and bird coloring. VERY excited for our Silver breeding program. 2024 will be a very good year for our D’Uccle breeding.

Origins and Appearance of the Belgian D'Uccle Chicken

As the name implies, these small-sized, ornamental birds come from Belgium. As true bantam chickens, they don't have any larger counterparts. This breed is admired for its friendly temperament and stunning looks. You can easily recognize a D'Uccle chicken by its bearded face and feathered legs/feet, lovingly called "boots." The tail forms a V shape (not a U), and the head and tail are held high. A broad chest is another feature of this delightful breed.

Friendly Temperament and Trainability

Calm and friendly, D'Uccle chickens are rarely aggressive toward people. They're easily trained to interact with humans, making them a fantastic choice for families with children. Their docile nature also makes them a perfect addition to any backyard flock.

Egg-Laying Abilities

D'Uccle chickens lay small cream-colored eggs that weigh about 1 ounce each. You can use two D'Uccle eggs as a substitute for one large egg in any recipe. Expect about 100 eggs per year from your laying hens.

Caring for D'Uccle Chickens

D'Uccle chickens are relatively low-maintenance and can adapt well to various climates. They need a cozy coop for shelter and a fenced-in area for protection. As excellent foragers, they require little supplemental feeding when allowed to roam freely.

So, if you're looking for a charming, easily trainable, and low-maintenance bird to add to your backyard flock, the Belgian D'Uccle chicken is a perfect choice. And here at Black Horse Farm, we're committed to providing you with the finest quality chicks as well as hatching eggs.
