Celebrating Successful Weaning: Thriving Calves on the Farm

Brooks and Nelson have now been weaned and are thriving.  We (well that means I) have decided to retain Brooks.  He is such a special boy, and we have an incredible bond, so I just can’t seem to part with him.  Brooks is so very friendly, smart, and independent.  In addition to his amazing disposition, his confirmation, and chondro-positive status make him very desirable for breeding. While Brooks will stay on the farm, Nelson has been sold and will be headed to a wonderful family that happens to be friends of my friends.  I just love it when things work out so well.  It will be so hard to see Nelson go but I’m sure his new family will send us lots of updates. Brooks will be paired with Maple and we are excited for calves from this pairing in the coming years. We also enjoyed lots of company over the Christmas holidays which gave us a wonderful opportunity to socialize the calves even more. They have learned to take treats from people they don’t know and accept scratches and attention.
